Metro Police are investigating the shooting death early this morning of a 31-year-old man outside his house near Bonanza Road and Lamb Boulevard.

Metro's 911 dispatch center received a call reporting the sound of gunfire just after 2:30 a.m. in the 3900 block of Logging Court.

When patrol officers arrived, they found a man on the sidewalk in front of his home, dead of apparent gunshot wounds, Sgt. Ken Hefner of Metro's homicide section said.

After hearing the shots, his relatives went outside and discovered the victim.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide section at 229-3521.

Probation given in Medicaid fraud

A personal care assistant was sentenced for Medicaid fraud Monday to 12 months in prison, but it was suspended and she was place on probation for two years.

Janice Proctor, 51, was sentenced for two counts of conspiracy to commit Medicaid fraud.

Proctor was ordered to pay restitution of $1,110.

According to Medicaid Fraud Control Unit director Tim Terry, Proctor received payment for services she did not render.

Specifically Proctor submitted billing information to two different home health agencies for services performed for only one patient, he said. Each of the home health agencies then submitted claims to Nevada Medicaid causing a double payment, he said.
