NLV might bring back balloon festival

Bringing back a hot air balloon festival and giving part-time summer jobs to teenagers were among a long list of plans North Las Vegas City Manager Gregory Rose has for the coming fiscal year beginning July 1.

The City Council on Wednesday voted 4-0 to endorse Rose's "Work Plan," which lays out goals and proposed new programs for 2004-2005 fiscal year.

The hot air balloon festival was discontinued several years ago, and has been something council members have said they would like to see again.

Rose said 14 teens would get part-time summer jobs with the city under his proposal that could be implemented this summer or next.

Rose's plan also calls for putting city staff through a financial management program to teach them how to better manage their own money. This would result in city employees spending less time at work worrying about their personal finances and more time concentrating on their jobs, Rose said.
