Union members stage informational picket

Union members staged an informational picket in front of Desert Toyota at 6300 W. Sahara Ave. in Las Vegas on Saturday. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and other unions protested what they call slow-going negotiations between Desert Toyota and service technicians. A federal judge ordered Desert Toyota in February to bargain in good faith with the union, a decision that upheld two prior National Labor Relations Board administrative law judge decisions.
The Machinists Union is working to organize 193 Las Vegas Valley car dealerships , repair shops and trucking companies, and Desert Toyota is the first of those undergoing negotiations. The company has said in court filings that it disagrees with the union's choice of representing only service technicians and not other members of the serv ice department and has fought the administrative law judge decisions.
