Catching up with — Rachael Schein

High school: Centennial ('03)

Where she is now: Arizona

Class: Freshman

Sport: Basketball

Currently: Schein stepped directly from a successful high school career into a contributing role with one of the better women's basketball programs in the country. She has played in 11 of Arizona's 14 games, averaging more than 11 minutes per contest. Playing mostly at small forward, Schein is averaging 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. She is shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 90.9 percent from the free throw line.

Looking back: Schein played a key role in Centennial's back-to-back 4A state titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. A four-time all-conference selection for the Bulldogs, Schein also earned a spot on the Sun All-State first team as a senior. In her final campaign, Schein averaged 15 points and nine rebounds. She was the female athlete of the year at Centennial in 2002-03.
