Henderson services forced to move

Several of Henderson's goverment entities have temporarily relocated because of ongoing renovations to City Hall.
Beginning Tuesday all City Council meetings will take place in the Grand Ball Room at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St. Any other meetings that regularly take place in the council chambers will also be moved to the convention center, such as planning and developmental services meetings, City Clerk Monica Simmons said.
The clerk's office opened its temporary headquarters on the second floor of the new addition to Henderson City Hall today. The office is up the stairs to the left of the information desk in the front lobby.
The relocation will last about eight months as the old City Hall is retrofitted and redesigned to make room for additional staff, Simmons said.
The renovations include a new voting area and an area for passport applicants off the main lobby, Simmons said. Record services will also be moved to a room off the main lobby and all internal records will be moved downstairs.
"We are centralizing but also spreading out a little bit so our services are more accessible," Simmons said.
The space the clerk's office is currently occupying will be filled by customer service representatives for Henderson's utilities. These representatives are currently housed off site, Simmons said.
The relocation went well and should pose no problems, Simmons said.
"Luckily there is not a municipal election that will take place during our stay here," she said.
The office's new phone number is 267-1400.
