Letter: Deskin’s columns will be missed
Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 | 9:29 a.m.
I was saddened to read of the death of Ruthe Deskin, who served as assistant to the publisher at the Las Vegas Sun for more than 50 years.
I first met Ruthe when I was around 10 years old. My dear departed mother, Isabelle Mack, had just started to work as a writer for the Sun. Ruthe was then assistant to Publisher Hank Greenspun, the kindest and most humble man I have ever met.
I was always very impressed with Ruthe's lovely and dignified and efficient manner. She was also a champion, like the late Sun executive Sandy Thompson, of the less fortunate. In her writing, Ruthe befriended the homeless and stray animals. I always looked forward to reading her columns.
The great past writers of the Sun will always be remembered. Their legacy will be imprinted into the minds of the readers forever.
