Charleston Heights hosts barn dance

Southern Nevada Old-Time Contra Dancers and the Las Vegas Leisure Services Department will host the Old Time Barn Dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St.

Admission is $8; $7 for members; $5 for students, active military and children.

Also, the Contra Dancers will present a one-hour concert Fiddlin' and workshop with Laura Light and George Paul at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Whitney Library auditorium, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave.

Oscar night to help Arthritis Foundation

The Arthritis Foundation of Southern Nevada will benefit from a special showing of the Academy Awards Sunday in the Caesars Palace Ballroom.

The Caesars Palace audience will view the live telecast of the Academy Awards on four large screens. Each guest will receive the same official program distributed to guests seated at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, as well as the 76th Academy Awards commemorative posters.

Guests will also enjoy a silent auction reception.

Tickets are limited and are now on sale by calling the Arthritis Foundation at 367-1626.

Jewish learning series scheduled

As part of the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada's Jewish adult learning series, "Honey on the Page" will be held each night with the first session beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the second session at 7:45 p.m., through March 29.

All sessions, with the exception of the March 29 class, are being held at Nevada Power Co., 6226 W. Sahara Ave.

The lecture series provides a glimpse into contemporary ethical issues facing modern Judaism from different denominational perspectives.

The cost is $45; $35 for members.

Tule Springs Preservation Committee

is sponsoring a park cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Floyd Lamb State Park, to support and preserve the history of the park. Participants are asked to bring work gloves. To RSVP, call 656-0385.

Local black playwright Raymond Giddeons Jr.

will present an original stage play, "I Have a Dream," as part of the observance of Black History month at 7 p.m Friday in the Clark County Library's Performing Arts Theatre, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. With a positive theme focusing on a black family in crisis, the play is intended to inspire families to identify and act upon their own personal dreams and goals.
