Super Bowl produces record gaming win for Nevada books

Betting on Sunday's Super Bowl produced a record win for Nevada casinos.

The state Gaming Control Board reported today that $81.2 million was wagered on the game in which New England defeated Carolina 32-29. The sports books won an estimated $12.4 million or 15.3 percent of the handle.

The $81.2 million was the largest amount wagered on a Super Bowl in records dating back to 1995. The handle surpassed the 1999 figure of $75.9 million. And the win exceeded the previous record of $11 million in 2001.

While it was the largest amount ever won, the 15.3 percentage of win was second to the 2001 win of 16.3 percent. In that game Baltimore defeated the New York Giants 34-7. Last year the books won $5.2 million on $71.6 million wagered on the game between Tampa Bay and Oakland.
