Solomon Bloom

Solomon Bloom, 77, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 27, 1927, in South Africa. A resident for 28 years, he was a retired theater producer and director.

He is survived by his wife, Hannah; one daughter, Denise Dinger of Las Vegas; two sons, Alan Bloom of Las Vegas and Charles Bloom of San Diego; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be noon Friday in King David Memorial Chapel, 2679 Eldorado Lane. Burial will follow in King David Memorial Cemetery.

Helen Boinus

Helen Boinus, 88, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born April 22, 1916, in Lithuania. A resident for 23 years, she was a retired translator for the federal government.

She is survived by one son, Jonathan Sinagub of New York City; two sisters, Rebecca Twersky of Providence, R.I., and Clara Benell of Skokie, Ill.; three brothers, Benjamin Herson of Malibu, Calif., Morris Herson of White Plains, N.Y., and Daniel Herson of Israel; and one grandchild.

Services will be in Madison, Wis. King David Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane, is handling arrangements.

Adele Cureton Kutch Bushnell

Adele Cureton Kutch Bushnell, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. She was born March 12, 1926, in Cove, Ark. A resident for 50 years, she was a retired care giver.

She is survived by four daughters, Robbie McClain and Luann Kutch, both of Las Vegas, and Esther Bushnell and Jane Bushnell, both of Louisville, Colo.; one son, Ben Kutch of Las Vegas; two brothers, Buck Cureton of Vandervoort, Ark., and Nick Cureton of Cove; five sisters, Myrtle Brazill of Port Arthur, Texas, Louise Cureton of Andover, Kan., Wanda Bailey of Victoria, Texas, Daisey Jacobs of Cove and Glenda Fleming of Newhope, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to an 11 a.m. service Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Cemetery.

Alex Ferns

Alex Ferns, 89, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Toronto. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired machine parts inspector.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Gary Ferns of Sebastopol, Calif., and Jim Ferns of Victoria, British Columbia.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 2 p.m. graveside service Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Charles W. French

Charles W. French, 79, of Cranfills Gap, Texas, died Dec. 7 in Cranfills Gap. He was born July 18, 1925, in Alto, Texas. A former Las Vegas resident, he was a retired wholesale distributor of electrical supplies and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myrtle Pearl; two daughters, Martha Anne Cox and Katherine Mary Stapleford; two sons, Charles Kenneth French and David W. French; two sisters, Shirley Germany and Barbara Wells; one brother, Roy Don French; 6 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Jan. 9 in Cranfills Gap. Lawson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Hermann Frostig

Hermann Frostig, 83, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born July 18, 1921, in Austria. A resident for four years, he was a retired owner and operator of a restaurant, and served in the French Foreign Legion. He was a Holocaust survivor.

He is survived by two nieces, Karen Frostig of Newton, Mass., and Lilian Green of England; and one nephew, Richard Frostig of Wilton, Conn.

Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Friday in Palm Cemetery, Northwest. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. is handling arrangements.

Harriette Ann Gabriele

Harriette Ann Gabriele, 80, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. She was born April 29, 1924, in Burlington, Vt. A resident for three years, she was a retired telephone operator and a member of Pioneers of America.

She is survived by two cousins, Phyllis Barrett and Anna Harriette Barrett, both of Tacoma, Wash.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Burial will be noon Monday in Palm Valley View Park.

Fred L. Kaufman

Fred L. Kaufman, 65, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in North Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 15, 1939, in Indianapolis. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired truck driver.

He is survived by three daughters, Teresa Iwakiri of North Las Vegas and Michelle Wilkinson and Kimberly Blakeley, both of Las Vegas; one son, Thomas Kaufman of Las Vegas; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Deny Guadalupe Rivera

Deny Guadalupe Rivera, 14, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 30, 1990, in Durango, Mexico. A resident for seven years, she was a student.

She is survived by her parents, Esteban and Maria Rivera, and three brothers, Cesar Rivera, Jose Rivera and Jair Rivera, all of Durango.

Visitation is scheduled 2-9 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial to follow in Palm Valley View Cemetery.

Carolyn Schmidt

Carolyn Schmidt, 66, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local care center. She was born Aug. 3, 1938, in New York City. A resident for 27 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Keith Schmidt of Las Vegas; one sister, Maureen E. McDaniel of Rio Rancho, N.M.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday in First Southern Baptist Church, 700 E. St. Louis Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89104. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd., North is handling arrangements.

Ashley Jean Swain

Ashley Jean Swain, 19, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 2, 1985, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was a casino runner.

She is survived by her mother, Angela Ipock, and her father, Thomas Swain, both of Las Vegas.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Burial will be private.

Taatofa M. Tuinei

Taatofa M. Tuinei, 68, of Las Vegas died Dec. 8 in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in American Samoa. A longtime resident, he was a financial administrator and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Toaiva; five daughters, Lloyda Tuinei of Tennessee, Ulvaipouomalo Tuinei of Samoa, and Terina Sauvao, Agimoe Fiaseu and Matau Tuinei, all of Las Vegas; three sons, Ulufanuasesee Tuinei of Las Vegas, Taatofa M. Tuinei Jr. and Repeka Tuinei, both of Wisconsin; four brothers, John Tuinei, Kenneth Tuinei and Sialiitu Tuinei, all of Las Vegas, and Tumua Tuinei of California; two sisters, Vaovai Alo of California and Luaipou Fa'atali of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Bunker Chapel. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in First Congregational Church, 1200 N. Eastern Ave. Burial will be noon Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Betty Jean Young

Betty Jean Young, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 18, 1926, in St. Joseph, Mo. A resident for 41 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald; one daughter, Regina Smith, and two sons, David Young and Gregory Young, all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Edna Caton of St. Joseph and Ruth Johnson of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, George Griffin of St. Joseph; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at West Minster Presbyterian Church, 4601 W. Lake Mead Blvd., followed by burial in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.
