Winston considering a transfer

UNLV backup guard John Winston did not dress for Tuesday night's 80-65 win against Gardner-Webb and will meet today with head coach Lon Kruger to discuss his future with the team.
Winston, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from San Francisco, did not play in the Rebels' 79-67 loss to Oklahoma State and is averaging just 8.4 minutes and 2.2 points per game this season. He has fallen behind junior Ricky Morgan to third string on the team's point guard depth chart.
"We're talking right now and we'll continue to do so about his future basketball-wise and school-wise," UNLV coach Lon Kruger said. "We're going to talk again and sort through some of that."
Winston practiced with the team at its walk-through on Tuesday but did not sit on the bench during the game. Kruger said that it was "John's choice" not to suit up or sit with the team Tuesday.
"We talked before the game tonight and he just felt like he would like to come by and talk more in the morning," Kruger said. "He said he'd like to come by and discuss what his future might be."
Winston started three games as a freshman and averaged 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds.
