Letter: Taxpayers fund offshore work
Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 | 8:58 a.m.
Am I out of touch when I say that companies who move their headquarters operations to offshore tax shelters should not be allowed to feed from the American taxpayer trough?
On July 30 Gov. Kenny Guinn and Attorney General Brian Sandoval, acting as the Nevada Board of Examiners, awarded a $28 million contract to Accenture LLP, the Bermuda-based remnant of the former Arthur Andersen accounting firm.
And what will tax-sheltered Accenture be doing for its $28 million? Developing software and systems to make it easier for Nevada to collect taxes from Nevada residents and businesses. Accenture will also be doing most of the work with foreigners on H-1B and L-1 visas.
On the other hand, the moral compass was already pointed when the Bush administration gave Accenture a $10 billion Homeland Security contract.
