Letter: Can’t spin Bush’s terrible record
Monday, April 26, 2004 | 8:53 a.m.
I'm writing in response to the April 15 letter by Lee S. Gliddon headlined, "Kerry lacks spine to be president."
Gliddon stated that the economy is soaring, yet all economic indicators are pointing down from the date that Bush assumed office. How can any reasonable person think that the employment picture is bright, when in actuality unemployment has increased from a 40-year low of 3.9 percent under the Clinton administration to a current 5.7 percent, or a 40 percent increase under the Bush administration?
Hasn't Gliddons heard of "job outsourcing"? Or is he blind to the facts? He considers the war in Iraq as being effective, with American troops dying at a rate of nearly two a day and no foreseeable signs of a peaceful resolution.
He also falsely stated that wages are higher than before. The most updated information released is that wages are 21 percent less under George W. Bush than under the Clinton administration.
You can spin lies often enough to a less-than-informed public and eventually those lies will seem like truths, but to tell the truth substantiated with facts does not require spin for an open-minded intelligent public to understand.
