Letter: Don’t blame witnesses for not solving crimes

Metro Police Lt. Tom Monahan states that one of the reasons Metro's homicide clearance rate is below national average is because of lack of cooperation by witnesses.
Yet, consider what transpired when Conrad Malsom spotted a high-profile fugitive and contacted police: He was placed on hold, transferred to voice mail and generally ignored.
Reluctant witnesses are not unique to Las Vegas; apparently other police departments know how to work around the problem. And Metro officers can't have it both ways. If they want the public to assist with solving crimes, they must take our tips and information seriously. That starts with taking our calls.
