Spokeswoman for mayor leaving job

Elaine Sanchez, spokeswoman for Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, is leaving the city's public affairs department to become public affairs manager for the Clark County Aviation Department.

Sanchez, who works for the city manager's office but is assigned to handle the mayor's public affairs, has been with the city for four years.

She decided to take the new post, she said, because "These opportunities to get into management do not come along often."

Sanchez said her training last year by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Maryland made the move to the agency that oversees McCarran International Airport "a perfect fit."

Sanchez, whose last day will be April 29, will replace Hilarie Grey, who left the Aviation Department to become public affairs director for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A replacement for Sanchez in the city post has not been named.

Sanchez' city job pays $69,722 a year. She will make $72,500 in the new position.

Sanchez has been subpoenaed to testify before the Ethics Commission regarding allegations levied against Goodman. She said that had nothing to do with her decision to change jobs.
