Sertoma to host awards banquet

The Las Vegas Paradise Sertoma Club will hold its annual awards banquet Sunday at the Gallery, 980 American Pacific Drive, Henderson.

Awards announcement and celebration and entertainment will be provided by Music in Motion. Awards will go to the Sertoman of the Year.

During the event new officers will be announced and inducted by District Governor Nancy Humphries.

Guests at the banquet will include students enrolled in the College Scholarship program.

NLV celebrates new fire station

North Las Vegas will celebrate the addition of Fire Station 56 in the Aliante master-planned community, with a grand opening and dedication event at 4 p.m. Monday.

The new station, at 3475 W. Elkhorn Drive, is situated on 2.5 acres, with the property, structure and apparatus donated to the city by North Valley Enterprises, the developer of Aliante. The project broke ground in July.

AIDS Walk fund-raiser set

Aid for AIDS of Nevada will hold a fund-raising event to support the fight against AIDS at 8 a.m. Sunday inside Lady Luck in downtown Las Vegas.

Join local celebrities, community leaders and other local businesses. The AIDS Walk raises monies to help those AFAN serves and raise awareness by walker participation, corporate sponsorship, team support and media coverage.

Veterans to get special assistance

The Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be at the following locations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to provide counseling and claim filing assistance to veterans:

Monday: Ramada Express, 2121 S. Casino Drive, Laughlin.

Tuesday: Masonic Lodge, 281 E. Gemini, Pahrump.

Wednesday: Best Western, 320 Main St., Tonopah.

Thursday: Fallon Employment Office, 121 Industrial Way, Fallon.

April 23: Veterans Hall, 124 W. Second St., Carson City.

Henderson libraries celebrate 60 years

Henderson District Public Libraries will host the Library Door Carnival and Canteen from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot adjacent to the Gibson Library, 280 Water St., to celebrate 60 years serving the public.

The event will feature dancing, costumes, pie eating contests, attractions, carnival games, food, drinks and entertainment.

Secretary of State Dean Heller

will address how the federal Help America Vote Act is being implemented in Nevada during an address at the League of Women Voters of Las Vegas Valley business meeting and luncheon that begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Main Street Station. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

will hold its 20th annual fund-raising gala at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Dallas Ballroom at Texas Station to raise funds to support and advance research in the field of diabetes, and to honor Station Casinos for its community involvement and commitment. The Southern Nevada Iris Society

will present its 34th annual Spring Iris Show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Galleria at Sunset. A plethora of colors and varieties will be on display, along with seedling blossoms.
