Hardcastle named new chief judge

District Judge Kathy Hardcastle will replace Michael Douglas as chief judge of District Court in Clark County.

Douglas resigned from the largely administrative post after his appointment to serve as a justice on the Nevada Supreme Court.

District Court judges voted to appoint Hardcastle as chief judge during a closed personnel session following the judges' regular monthly meeting Wednesday.

The position includes overseeing all administrative matters of the court that affect the judges, including handling case management issues and reassigning cases in the instance of a judicial conflict of interest, Michael Sommermeyer, court information officer, said.

Hardcastle has led the implementation of court technology services and case management procedures since taking the bench in 1997, Sommermeyer said.
