I don't believe that people understand what many seniors must go through in trying to remain independent. On my $10,000 annual income from Social Security, I haven't been able to go to movies, shows or casinos -- or even out to dinner. Now, with costs rising so dramatically, I'm having trouble paying my sewer and utility bills. With gasoline prices going up so much, I have to think hard before driving my car -- which I can barely afford because of the cost of upkeep and registration.
I know seniors who are so worried about rising utility costs that they turn off the heat and air conditioning in their homes. We are all concerned about how to survive this summer. I have fans and have weatherized my home, but how else can I save? It is not our fault that Nevada Power made questionable decisions. Why do we have to pay for their business decisions with power bills that are unbelievably high?
It seems no one cares that not everyone has unlimited resources to cover all the rising costs. We have worked hard all of our lives and should be able to at least be comfortable in our homes.
