Valley’s supply running short
Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 | 9:23 a.m.
All blood types in the Las Vegas Valley are in short supply after the public failed to respond five days ago to a call for more donations, the United Blood Services said.
United Blood Services listed a critical appeal for rare blood types A and B negative and Type-B positive on Friday. The need for the blood types has not been filled.
Type-O blood continues to help Southern Nevada hospitals make up the shortage, but its availability is low as well.
To help overcome the serious blood supply shortage, potential blood donors can call 233-9620 for operating hours, locations, appointments and answers to eligibility questions.
Walk-ins are also accepted.
Although all blood types are needed, donors with blood types A and B negative as well as Type O are in shortest supply.
Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds. On average, the typical time to donate is 90 minutes. All donors must present proper identification.
