Letter: Recall is latest GOP effort to steal elections
Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 | 8:57 a.m.
"Recall" -- what a gentle and innocuous word for what is actually election thievery. It is painfully obvious that the Republican Party is rejoicing in its ability to get away with removing any duly elected candidate from office who does not conform to their ultra-right, super-selfish agenda.
Republicans got away with contaminating the 2000 presidential election and now believe that their latest ploy to remove any Democrat or other elected official from office is too clever for Americans to realize what is happening to our constitutional voting processes.
The Bush administration has plunged all of our 50 states into dire circumstances. The United States is now in the worst budget deficit in its history. Because of this, our governors today face the task of operating our schools and maintaining other necessities without raising taxes even slightly.
But Americans are finally and blessedly waking up. California voters protesting the recall of Gov. Gray Davis are becoming more outraged and adamant each day. Hopefully, all loyal and informed Americans are also recognizing this latest Republican attempt to steal elections and will demand that they be stopped in their tracks before honest elections and civil rights in the United States become only fond, faded, and wistful memories of "the way we were."
