Troop leader wants scout to attend camp

WEEKEND EDITION: Sept. 13, 2003
A West Middle School sixth grader is described as an "exceptional acting talent" and above-average performer in his Boy Scout Troop. He wants to go to camp, his troop leader writes, but his family, which is on welfare, cannot afford to send him.
The ability of the boy, who has a 2.8 grade point average, to attend camp "is dependent heavily on any assistance your camping fund could provide," the leader writes.
The Sun Summer Camp Fund provides scholarships for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp. The Las Vegas Sun covers all administrative costs, so every donated dollar goes directly to camp tuition.
Sometimes simple things, such as toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire and spending time around camp counselors who are positive role models are the memories that children will carry with her through the rest of their lives.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you can make a difference in a child's life.
