Letter: U.S. cannot be world’s police

I agree with what Ruthe Deskin wrote in her Aug. 28 column in the Las Vegas Sun. She says it like it is. I'm with her -- let the Iraqis fight their own problems. Bring the American troops back home before we have another Vietnam-type loss.
President Bush made a big mistake. His ego induced him to avenge his father's mistakes. We need to stop policing the world and stop trying to democratize countries that are happy with their religion and way of life.
I am a longtime admirer of Deskin's column. She portrays a lot of the views of this 92-year old liberal, a survivor of the Great Depression and the North Dakota dust bowl. Also, I am a veteran of World War II, a veteran of Vietnam and a retired foreign service officer.
