Letter: Media usurped Dean supporters
Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 | 8:45 a.m.
Our group of Howard Dean enthusiasts milled about as we waited for Dean's jet to touch down at the North Las Vegas Airport late Tuesday afternoon. Reporters and camera crews were there too, apparently looking for answers to the remarkable rise of Dean's campaign for the presidency. Most of us private citizens, having invested our time and money, had hoped to meet and speak with Howard Dean, to encourage him to move ahead.
As it was, the reporters had a different agenda that centered around the very tired Yucca Mountain nuclear-waste storage issue. When Howard Dean arrived, it was the reporters who asked the questions, and the questions seemed scripted.
The media folks had the lights, the dominant positions, the competitive determination and the arrogance that excluded us citizens. Those of us who have made investments were excluded, as though we were incompetent.
