Officers nearby as man shot to death

Metro Police officers witnessed a fatal shooting about 2:30 a.m. Saturday as they patrolled an area in the 3100 block of West Sahara Avenue, police said.

Metro officers arrested Ricardo Lopez, 20, of Las Vegas after gunfire erupted in the parking lot of Hurricane Harry's, a nightclub.

The victim was identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Gustavo Gonzalez, 27, of Las Vegas.

Lopez has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center and faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon, Metro Lt. Tom Monahan said.

Monahan said officers in the parking lot saw two groups of men arguing over possible gang affiliations. At first the argument seemed to end peacefully, as the men shook hands and walked away, Monahan said.

One man returned shortly, renewing the argument. Someone pulled out a gun and opened fire, officers said.
