Walk to Cure Diabetes scheduled
The Nevada Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International will hold its 2003 annual Walk to Cure Diabetes at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The event will include a rock climbing wall, face painting, inflatable, balloon artists, food and more. Additionally, walkers will have a chance to meet the Las Vegas Wranglers and Gladiators.

Great Strides fights cystic fibrosis
The third annual Boulder City Great Strides walk will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Railroad Tunnel trail located just down from Boulder City in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Great Strides is a fund-raiser that assists in the research and development of a cure for cystic fibrosis.

Nominations due for arts awards
Nominations for the 24th annual Governor's Arts Awards must be submitted to the Carson City office of the Nevada Arts Council no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 15. Late or faxed nominations will not be considered.
Nominees and nominators must be Nevada residents or organizations/businesses that work in and for the benefit of Nevada.
Governor's Arts Awards categories are: Excellence in the Arts; Excellence in Folk Arts; Service to the Arts, Organizations and Individuals; Service to the Arts, Businesses and Patrons; and Arts and Education.

After-school celebration set
The Southern Nevada Afterschool Collaborative will sponsor the Clark County Lights on Afterschool! celebration at 5 p.m. Thursday at Freedom Park, Washington Avenue and Mojave Road.
The event is designed to raise awareness of the need for quality afterschool programs in communities throughout the country, and will feature entertainment by students from various after-school programs, informational booths, activities for the family, food and much more.
