Letter: Troops, Iraqis died in vain
Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 | 4:38 a.m.
In March 2003, two days before President Bush's pre-emptive attack on the people of Iraq, the president said, in part: "Intelligence gathered ... leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."
Bush's team of 1,400 investigators, led by David Kay, has turned up absolutely no proof whatsoever of Bush's claims.
As of this writing, 300 of our troops have been killed and more than 1,600 of them wounded. Also, more than 8,000 Iraqis have been killed.
There is no question in my mind that these troops and civilians died in vain.
