Business booming for LV builder

DENVER -- M.D.C. Holdings Inc., Colorado's largest home builder and a big builder in Las Vegas, said earnings in the third quarter probably exceeded analyst estimates as orders swelled to the highest level in the company's history.

Orders in the third quarter increased 19 percent from the year-earlier period, boosting the company's backlog to 6,277 homes with an estimated sales value of $1.65 billion, Denver-based M.D.C. said.

M.D.C. builds under the Richmond American brand in the Las Vegas area, where it expects to sell about 2,000 homes this year.
