If today's final round is anywhere near as exciting as Tuesday's opening round, the boys' 4A State golf tournament promises to be fun.
With five teams within 11 shots of leader Green Valley, the team competition is intense. The Gators' depth showed through with a low round of 74 and a high round of 81 en route to a team score of 387 at Red Hawk Golf Club in Sparks.
Bishop Gorman trails by one stroke, with Coronado starting the day three shots behind and Palo Verde four strokes out. Galena (394), Bonanza (398) and Reed (398) also enter today's play in the hunt. McQueen (428) and Foothill (429) round out the field.
Gorman's Johnny Pinjuv holds the individual lead after firing a 1-under 71 Tuesday. Pinjuv holds a one-stoke lead over Coronado's Matt Edwards and a two-shot lead over Basic's Dustin Borum and Reno's Jared Becher.
The individual competition also figures to be stiff, with 18 golfers beginning the day within six shots of Pinjuv.
