Bikers, walkers will tour for diabetes

The Las Vegas office of the American Diabetes Association will hold the 2003 Tour de Cure Ride and Stride Saturday.

Bicyclists will check in at 6:30 a.m. for the 100K, 7:30 a.m. for the 50K and 8 a.m. for the 25K. The walkers will check in at 8:45 a.m. for both the 1.5 mile and the 3 mile walk.

The registration fee is $25. Proceeds will benefit research for a cure for diabetes.

The 2003 Tour de Cure Ride and Stride will start at Green Valley Ranch Station and will tour the Green Valley area of Henderson.

Von Tobel Center to host teen dance

Clark County Parks and Community Services will host a high school dance from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at Von Tobel Teen Center, 3610 E. Carey Ave.

Admission is $3, and food is available for sale.

Proper dress is required, and a valid school picture ID card will be needed to get in. High school teens only will be allowed in.

Women should leave their purses and valuables at home.

Home improvement show begins Friday

The Las Vegas Home Improvement & Decorating Show will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cashman Center.

Admission is $5; $4 for senior citizens; children aged 18 and under are free.

Students from the Las Vegas Art Institute are creating specially designed "DJ Designer Rooms" that will be displayed at the show and judged for awards and to help win scholarships. Call 451-0344.

Seminar scheduled on career decisions

The Leadership Center of Community Lutheran Church will host a seminar on career and business decisions from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave.

Admission is $20, $25 per session or $30, $40 for both.

Certified career coach, author and national speaker Tom "TJ" Jones will speak at both sessions. Call 458-2241.

Spring Mt. Ranch to offer desert tips

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park will sponsor a talk on desert awareness at 10 a.m. Saturday at the ranch house.

Entrance fee s to the park in Red Rock Canyon is $5. No additional fees for the program.

Martial arts students will kick leukemia

The third annual Karate Kicks for Leukemia for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be at 11 p.m. Saturday at the 13 United Studios of Self Defense throughout the valley.

Martial arts karate students will receive prize incentives based on the number of kick pledges they received. Proceeds of pledges benefit local patient services for blood cancer patients and the research program.

AIDS Candlelight Memorial scheduled

The 20th annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial will be 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway.

The event is coordinated by Global Health Council and serves to honor the memory of those lost to HIV/AIDS and show support for those living with HIV/AIDS.
