Centennial stays perfect

Thursday's boys' volleyball regionals produced little drama, with all four top seeds advancing to today's championship games.
In the Sunrise Region, Northeast top seed Chaparral dismissed Green Valley (SE-2) 25-21, 25-23, 25-20. The Cowboys will take on Southeast top seed Silverado at 5 p.m. today, as the Skyhawks handled Las Vegas (NE-2), 25-14, 25-20, 16-25, 25-18.
Centennial ran its perfect record to 20-0, as the Northwest top seed dispatched Bonanza (SW-2), one of its top competitors, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, to move into the Sunset Region title game. The Bulldogs face Southwest top seed Durango, which took care of Sierra Vista (SW-3), 25-18, 25-22, 28-26. The Sunset championship is at 7 p.m.
Both games are at Chaparral High School. All four teams already have qualified for next week's NIAA/U.S. Bank 4A State Tournament. The Sunset winner will take on the Sunrise runner-up, and the Sunrise winner will face the Sunrise runner-up in the semifinals.
Wheeler's team struggled, however, placing last of four teams. The team title went to Virgin Valley with a 467, holding off Boulder City by four strokes. Virgin Valley was the only team to have all five scoring players shoot under 100.
