Letter: Our decisions affect future
Friday, March 28, 2003 | 9:06 a.m.
I've been reading that our president feels that this Iraqi conflict will cost the American taxpayers upwards of $75 billion. Why do we have to pay the entire burden? Shouldn't the Iraqis pay for a portion of their newly created freedom out of their forthcoming oil revenues? Seems fair.
Also, I read that our war protesters feel that America is pushing her weight around by promoting our "policy" agendas over world opinion. That's funny. I don't see us at war with anybody else, forcing our troops on other peaceful democratic republics, or threatening economic blockades. But I have noticed that the world community will be happy to favor us with their support for the right economic benefit package (bribe).
As we all know, most nations that have adopted a no-war stance are doing so because they fear retribution. They truly hope that they will be left alone if they "stand up to America." Terrorism has no conscience, morals or boundaries. It is just a forced "policy" of fanatics who don't believe in the United Nations.
Before we condemn our president and "policy," remember that our grandchildren will be "living" with the decisions we make today, but I truly feel that our actions today will guarantee that our grandchildren will be living tomorrow.
