Poets' corner
The Las Vegas Cultural Affairs Division hosts an evening of established poets and open-mike participants at 7:30 p.m. today. Admission is free. 229-4800.
Free movie
Crown Theatres presents its annual free Summer Children's Film Festival at 10 a.m. Thursday at 450 E. Freemont St. This week's film is "Ice Age." 383-9600.
Teen program
The Henderson District Public Libraries are offering "Teen Star Search Survivor," a program for those ages 13 to 18, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Gibson Public Library, 280 Water St. The event is free. 564-9287.
Festival
The third annual Gift and Craft Summer Festival will be held from 1-6 p.m. today, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Henderson Convention Center. Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for children 14 and under. (877) 775-5252.
Fund-raiser
Two Lions Clubs are sponsoring an authentic Thai buffet from 7-11 p.m. Sunday at Ocha Restaurant, 1201 Las Vegas Blvd., to raise money for the Nevada Chapter of Better Vision for Children Foundation. Tickets are $20, and all proceeds go to BVC. 328-0241 or 897-2918.
Presentations
Officials from the fire department will visit the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., at 10:30 a.m. Saturday as part of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District's"Local Heroes and Superheroes" program. 507-3644.
Movie series
The Clark County Parks and Community Services Department presents the "Starlight Movie Series," which continues at 8:30 p.m. today at Martin Luther King Park at the intersection of Carey Avenue and Christy Lane. Writing contest
Scripts are being accepted for the 16th Annual Nevada Film Office Screenplay Competition until June 30. Prizes include cash awards, a press conference/ luncheon with the lieutenant governor of the state, gifts and promotion of the top three winning scripts to producers and production companies in Hollywood.
