Letter: Children need more than college
Monday, June 9, 2003 | 9:07 a.m.
Affirmative action should be struck down by the Supreme Court in favor of an anonymous drawing to determine who gets admitted to college; that would achieve both cultural and intellectual diversity.
Of course, they could simply toughen entrance examinations; if you don't have a brain, you don't belong in college period.
A college degree doesn't guarantee financial success. Many fail. Many graduate, but never find a job that requires their degree. Some graduate then become disillusioned about their field, then get into something they really like!
Children don't need college to succeed ... children need love, support, discipline, a thirst for knowledge, respect for others, and to be trained for a future boss. Wise parents teach their children to ask, "How can I help?"
