State will get security grant

Nevada will receive about $225,000 to train citizens to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their community, federal officials said today.

The grant, which is part of $19 million being made available to expand the Community Emergency Response Team program, comes from the Department of Homeland Security.

The program includes 20 hours of training on disaster preparedness, basic disaster medical treatment and search and rescue to assist "first responders" -- police, pareamedics, etc. -- in helping victims, officials said.
