SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The family of a woman killed in an accident on The Belle of Sioux City has settled a lawsuit against the riverboat casino.
Patricia Thompson, 59, of Sioux City, died June 30, 2000, of head injuries after she was hit by a metal piece from a winch.
One of the family's attorney, Joseph Van Winkle of Des Moines, said the Belle, Iowa Gaming Company and Dutton-Lainson Company, a Hastings, Neb., company that made the winch, have agreed to pay an undisclosed amount of money to the family.
"We think it's a very fair settlement," he said.
