Air Force flights to increase during training exercise
Monday, June 2, 2003 | 9:53 a.m.
Southern Nevadans will notice an increase in flights during a large-scale Air Force weapons school mission exercise through June 11.
Most daylight flying will occur in the afternoon. Most night flights will begin at 8 p.m. and continue until 1 a.m.
On Tuesday and on June 11 only daylight missions will be flown.
The Air Force launches will involve up to 80 aircraft.
The U.S. Air Force weapons school is a graduate-level instructor course designed to offer realistic advance training in weapons and tactics to military officers. The school provides training to A-10, B-1, B-2, B-52, F-15C, F-15E, F-16C, F-117, Special Operations Forces and HH60G aircrew officers.
The German Air Force will also fly up to 16 F-4 Phantom IIs and Tornado aircraft.
Graduates of the weapons school are called weapons officers and considered by many to be the best instructors in the Air Force.
