Letter: Blame Harter
Thursday, July 31, 2003 | 9:53 a.m.
In response to Ron Kantowski's column last Thursday about Dr. Carol Harter, I say Hurrah!!! It's about time someone started pointing the finger where it belongs.
As a long time UNLV basketball and football fan, I have been sickened by the way the program has been managed (or not), and the fact that she has continued to receive raises and acclaim, while destroying the heart of each and every fan. I have no doubt that our football and especially our basketball program would be in far better straits without that baggage.
I believe that she has cost UNLV hundreds of thousands of dollars by not having the know-how or the ability to recognize her shortcomings in the area of sports management. I suspect that her arrogance far outweighs any experience or knowledge that she could possibly have in any area.
If the pulse of the teaching staff at UNLV is ever taken, I know you will find that they would respond to the firing of Carol Harter with a big thumbs-up. And this fan would definitely concur.
