Letter: ‘Big Brother’ is pervasive here
Saturday, July 5, 2003 | 2:59 a.m.
In response to the June 27 column by Susan Snyder, "Project is a state of mind": I must comment as I have signed on as a member of the Free State Project. I left Chicago in 1995, a place where bureaucracy and high taxes are ingrained in the politics.
Arriving in Nevada, I thought I was in the "Wild West" where the ridiculous regulations and high taxes were not common practice. To my disappointment, I soon realized through my experiences as well as many others, that Family Court, the DMV, the public schools and now the governor and his socialistic approach to taxes are the norm.
I see cameras on every street corner. There is just too much "Big Brother" for me in this state. I had once thought that Nevada had learned many lessons from California's mistakes, unfortunately not.
I look forward to freedom in the near future in the selected state. Freedom is not just a state of mind. It is a state soon to be selected by those who are fed up with out-of-control bureaucrats. It is one of the states that already understands liberty and wants to preserve it.
