NDOW in need of volunteers

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is seeking volunteers to assist with two projects related to wildlife.

A sage grouse trapping project will be held in the mountain ranges north of Tonopah from July 14-18. Volunteers will be working with NDOW personnel each night during the week to trap sage grouse for an ongoing population study that is being conducted by the agency.

A large portion of the study involves capturing and marking sage grouse in the summer months to evaluate harvest rates during the October sage grouse season.

The second project, Aug. 11-22, involves the removal of elk that wander onto private land northeast of Panaca.

Volunteers will be working with NDOW personnel each evening during the week to haze the elk off private property and back onto public lands so that they do not continue to damage area alfalfa fields.

Information about these projects may be obtained by calling NDOW's Las Vegas office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 486-5127, ext. 3504.
