Kenneth Gerhart Ast

Kenneth Gerhart Ast, 71, of Lawton, Okla., died Sunday in Lawton. He was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Mount Hope, Kan. A former Las Vegas resident, he retired after 26 years as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, was a veteran of the Air Force for 25 years and a member of the American Postal Workers Union.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen Ast and Christina Ast.

He is survived by his wife, Vera Jean McKelvey; two daughters, Teresa Bentz of Pahrump and Michell Russell of Portland, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Connie Hanks, and one stepson, Douglas Hanks, both of Nevada; one adopted son, Christian Rivest Ast; his mother, Marie Ast, and two brothers, Manuel Ast and Duane Ast, all of Mount Hope; three sisters, Annacleta Manneback of Colwich, Kan., Colette Vanniman of Colorado and Jelene Grady of Wichita, Kan.; and six grandchildren.

Becker Funeral Home Inc., Lawton, is handling arrangements.

Douglas L. Burney

Douglas L. Burney, 45, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 20, 1958, in Reno. A resident for 41 years, he owned and operated Burney Equipment Co., and was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 12.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; his mother, Katherine Shotwell, and two sisters, Deborah Burney and Leslie Zemp, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Thomas Burney of Hayward, Calif.; and his grandmother, Jane Dell of Kingman, Ariz.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

E. Joyce Byrd

E. Joyce Byrd, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. She was born April 15, 1926, in Louisville, Ky. A resident for 58 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence; two daughters, Sandy Wheeler of Sequim, Wash., and Kay Nicksick of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

Frances E. Duffy

Frances E. Duffy, 75, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A resident for 42 years, she was a retired waitress from the Las Vegas Hilton after 25 years of service, and a member of the Las Vegas Women's Golf Club and the Craig Ranch Couples Club.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Elmore; one daughter, Terri Wilkins of Las Vegas; two brothers, Thomas Creighton of Poughkeepsie and Ronald Creighton of Phoenix; five sisters, Janet Magnarella of Oklahoma, Jeanne Pampinella of Las Vegas, Rosemarie Boyian of Norwalk, Conn., and Elizabeth Cataldo and Barbara Paganelli, both of Poughkeepsie; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Chapel, followed by burial in Memory Gardens.

Donald Dunseath

Donald Dunseath, 70, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. A retired hotel-casino surveillance officer and a Korean War Navy veteran, he was born April 30, 1933, in Oradell, N.J.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Dean and Dwayne; one daughter, Denise; one brother, Chickie; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Chapel of Spring Valley, 7175 W. Oquendo Road. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Sophia Rita Fleming

Sophia Rita Fleming, 83, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born May 15, 1920, in Delaware. A resident for 34 years, she was an inspectress at the MGM Grand.

She is survived by one daughter, Veronica Welsh of Pittsburgh; one son, Christopher Morris of Cheyenne, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. today with a 6 p.m. rosary in Bunkers Mortuary's chapel, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Margaret Goehring

Margaret Goehring, 84, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Wellsburg, W.Va. A resident for four years, she was a retired dairy farm worker.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol and Kathy Goerhing.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Pennsylvania. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

John Edward Greaney Sr.

John Edward Greaney Sr., 73, of Austin, Texas, died Friday in Farmington, N.M. He was born June 1, 1929, in Houston. A former Las Vegas resident for 20 years, he was a drug and alcohol counselor and a Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; three sons, John Greaney Jr. of Farmington and Thomas Greaney and Mike Greaney, both of Austin; two daughters, Cathy Darda of LaGrange, Ga, and Gen Greaney of Los Angeles; and eight grandchildren.

Robert V. (Naranjo) Moore

Robert V. (Naranjo) Moore, 59, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born May 19, 1944, in Hanford, Wash. A resident for 15 years, he was a construction inspector for the federal government, a Vietnam War Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline C.; one daughter, Sandra Lynne Evans of Tucson; his mother, Wilma Moore, and one sister, Revona Stoner, both of Henefer, Utah; three brothers, Michael Moore of Oakville, Wash., Steven Moore of Salt Lake City and Larry Moore of Tremonton, Utah; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to an 11:30 a.m. service Thursday in Buchanan LDS Chapel, Boulder City. Graveside services will follow at 1:20 p.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Clay Pooler

Clay Pooler, 64, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Albuquerque. A resident for nine years, he was a retired sports book manager.

He is survived by one son, Chris Pooler, and one daughter, Robyne Furthmyer, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Kim Ackerman of Albuquerque; and three grandchildren.

Evert Vern Sherwood

Evert Vern Sherwood, 55, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 21, 1947, in Minneapolis. A resident for eight years, he was a security guard for the Las Vegas Speedway.

He is survived by his companion, Mary Ellen Van Blaricum of Las Vegas; three sons, Todd Sherwood of Henderson, Brian Sherwood of Texas and Erik Van Blaricum of Las Vegas; his mother Rosetta Sherwood of Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be private.

Jo Ann Smith

Jo Ann Smith, 63, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born July 21, 1939, in Waco, Texas. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; one daughter, Debra Osborne-Baldwin of Rockmart, Ga.; two sons, Paul Osborne of Las Vegas and Michael Osborne of Henderson; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

'Wally' Stephensen

Wallace Vernon "Wally" Stephensen, 69, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Delta, Utah. A resident for 27 years, he was a restaurant manager.

He is survived by one daughter, Ann Crawford of North Las Vegas; four sons, Brad Stephensen, Scott Stephensen, Michael Stephensen and David Stephensen, and one sister, Dorothy Dyreng, all of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 10 a.m. service Wednesday in the Viking/Sandhill LDS Chapel.

Alex Tolmasoff

Alex Tolmasoff, 80, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. Born Aug. 26, 1922, in Maywood, Calif., he was a retired plasterer, World War II Navy veteran, and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mary.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will be at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Paula Fay Ullman

Paula Fay Ullman, 57, of Henderson died Friday in a local hospital. Born May 24, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., she was a retired probation officer, and a member of the Jewish Community Center of Wilkes-Barre.

She is survived by her parents, Louis and Esther Reiff Ullman, both of Kingston, Pa.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Pennsylvania. King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 Eldorado Lane, is handling arrangements.
