The brother and sister accused of stabbing two girls in Mesquite last month will have an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court Tuesday morning.
Beau Maestas, 19, and his sister, Monique, 16, were brought to Las Vegas Thursday from Nephi, Utah, where they fled after the Jan. 22 attack in a trailer at the CasaBlanca resort.
The pair are charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Kristyanna Cowan, 3, and a stabbing that paralyzed her sister, Brittney Bergeron, 10, allegedly over a bogus drug deal with the girls' mother, Tammy Bergeron, and her boyfriend, Robert Schmidt.
Mesquite Police are investigating Tammy Bergeron's parenting skills and may file charges against her. Police said her daughters were stabbed in the trailer while she was playing slot machines at the casino.
