Kyle Busch aiming to make Nextel Cup debut at LVMS

Las Vegas native Kyle Busch will attempt to qualify for the March 7 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports announced today.

Busch, 18, will attempt to qualify for six Nextel Cup points races as well as the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge (formerly The Winston) in 2004 besides competing in the full NASCAR Busch Series for Hendrick Motorsports. Busch will drive the No. 84 Chevrolet with sponsorship from Carquest Auto Parts.

"I appreciate the opportunity Carquest and the Hendrick family have provided," Busch said.

The March 7 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at LVMS could have three Las Vegas-born drivers in the field. Kurt Busch, Kyle's older brother, drives for Roush Racing and Brendan Gaughan also is expected to attempt to qualify for the race in a third car owned by Roger Penske.

Busch also will attempt to start the Nextel Cup races at Texas Motor Speedway in April, Lowe's Motor Speedway near Charlotte, N.C., in May, New Hampshire International Speedway in July, Michigan International Speedway in August and California Speedway in September.
