Artists' co-op holds fund-raiser

The City Lights Artists' Co-op will hold its first holiday bazaar fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the gallery, 26 Water St., Henderson.

The bazaar will not only include the customary paintings, prints, and sculptures but also other gift favorites, such as magnets, boxed sets of cards, and original craft items.

A percentage of the sales' proceeds will go toward defraying gallery costs and the Gallery's educational programs.

Victims of DUI to be remembered

The 10th annual Victim Memorial Tree dedication will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Park.

DUI victims, law enforcement, public officials and others will gather to dedicate additional trees to the Stop DUI Victim Memorial Grove. Plaques bearing the names of fatal DUI victims will be placed at the base of the trees. Candles will be lit during the roll call of victims' names.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Bobby Kintzel, who was injured by a driver under the influence, will place this year's memorial wreath in honor of all DUI victims.

Las Vegas High School's Madrigals will perform music and song.

Following the ceremony, participants will tie red ribbons to the dedicated trees with the hope that all who see them will be reminded not to drink and drive.

Sallie Mae to host Shade Tree benefit

Sallie Mae's "Shade Tree V" benefit concert will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at the House of Blues, to raise money for the Shade Tree women's shelter, a nonprofit organization that provides services to more than 4,000 homeless women and children each month.

The concert will feature the Gin Blossoms; host, British rocker John Waite, and a performance from Grammy award winning singer Jody Watley.

Sally Mae employees have elected to forgo their holiday party for the fifth consecutive year in order to host the benefit event.

All ticket proceeds will go to the Shade Tree Women's Shelter.

Admission is $30; $40; $100; and $400.

The Red Rock Audubon Society

will hold the traditional Christmas bird counts at 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Meet at the east side of Santa Fe Station near Rancho Drive. For a $5 fee your name will be published in the issue of "American Birds" along with the count results. For reservations, call 361-1171.

In honor of Bill of Rights Day,
