UNLV lands Mojave star Sequoia Holmes

Sequoia Holmes, a 6-foot-1 forward and a three-sport star at Mojave High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play for UNLV starting next fall, Rebels coach Regina Miller announced.

Holmes, a two-time all-state honoree, averaged 21 points and seven rebounds as a junior last year. Holmes has also earned all-conference honors twice, and received team MVP honors three times.

Additionally, she was a 100-meter and long-jump state champion in track last season and was the co-captain of Mojave's volleyball team.

"Sequoia is a tremendous athlete, and we feel she's a diamond in the rough who has a huge upside to her potential," said Miller. "She will fit perfectly into the system we have here, and will be a great complement to the Lady Rebels.

"I'm also glad that we were able to sign a local athlete. I feel that its important for us to go after and keep the local talent here in Las Vegas."

UNLV (3-1) takes to the road for its next game, Saturday at UNR starting at 7 p.m.
