Lawsuit over assault on CAT bus settled
Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003 | 11:22 a.m.
The civil lawsuit filed on behalf of a mentally challenged Las Vegas woman who claims she was sexually assaulted on a Citizens Area Transit bus was settled this week in a confidential agreement, according to court records.
Court records show the matter was settled Monday in a hearing before District Judge Kathy Hardcastle.
Both ATC, the company that operates the bus system, and 27-year-old Antonio Gomez, the former special services bus driver convicted in the assault, were named in the suit.
Valerie Michael, an ATC spokeswoman, would not confirm this morning whether the lawsuit had been settled. The victim's attorney, Douglas Cohen, who filed the suit, did not return calls for comment this morning.
Gomez was sentenced in May to eight to 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two lesser charges stemming from the assault -- one count each of attempted sexual assault and battery with the intent to commit sexual assault.
