Letter: Hope was great role model
Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 | 8:47 a.m.
I want to commend the Las Vegas Sun's very comprehensive and extremely expeditious coverage on July 28 of the passing of Mr. Bob Hope. It showed real journalistic professionalism.
The death of this legend was not unexpected, but very sad nonetheless. I was especially fond of Hope's contribution to America over much of the 20th century. He was a giant of a role model and he was of a caliber that may never pass this way again.
It is so rare to attain both the accomplishments and the age (he was born the year the Wright brothers flew the first airplane) that he did in his life. A giant reprint of the Jan. 10, 1944, Life magazine hangs in my home. Hope made the cover of that edition and the headline read, "Bob Hope: No. 1 Comedian."
What a life -- and what great memories he left behind.
