Letter: Education is a money pit
Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 | 8:46 a.m.
Your July 28 editorial, "Budget deal mustn't obscure larger issue," confirms what I have thought all along about the supposed education crisis. No matter how much money is squandered on education, it is never enough.
The 2003 Legislature just increased taxes by $836 million and already editorials like the Sun's and statements from the teachers union are saying that more money will be needed in 2005.
It is in the interest of the teachers unions and the likes of Clark County School District Superintendent Carlos Garcia to keep the system from improving -- if there's no crisis, there's no increase in funding. So keep the kids illiterate and all will be well.
