Kobe loses endorsement deal

The maker of a chocolate spread said today it will not renew its endorsement deal with Kobe Bryant, who is facing a sexual assault charge.

Ferrero, an Italian company with U.S. headquarters in Somerset, N.J., has discontinued all promotions involving Bryant.

"Ferrero U.S.A's contract with Kobe Bryant expires in January 2004," according to the statement. "Marketing plans established earlier this year did not contemplate a contract renewal. In keeping with this decision, and considering the recent developments, Kobe's image on Nutella labels and promotional material is being phased out."

Henman ends drought

Tim Henman won his first ATP Tour final since shoulder surgery in November, beating Fernando Gonzalez 6-3, 6-4 at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic at Washington.

Man U sweeps

Diego Forlan scored twice and New Jersey native Tim Howard made key saves as Manchester United beat Barcelona, 3-1, completing its U.S. tour with a perfect record in front of a sellout crowd of 68,396 at the opening of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Green Valley loses

The Green Valley all-stars lost, 3-2, to Chandler, Ariz., in their first game in the Little League West Region tournament at San Bernardino, Calif. Green Valley was to play Rancho Cucamong, Calif., today.

Title fight postponed

The WBA supermiddleweight title fight Wednesday between Anthony Mundine and Antwun Echols was postponed until Sept. 3 in Sydney because Mundine has a viral infection.

Woosnam out of PGA

Ian Woosnam withdrew from the PGA Championship following the death of his father. Harold Woosnam, 74, died July 27.
