Letter: Lakes must be drained to lower utility bills
Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 | 4:56 a.m.
Today I received my water bill with the new rates and also the newsletter about our mandatory watering hours and days. We have lived here for close to 40 years and have gladly paid for growth with higher and higher power, gas and water bills because we like living in Las Vegas.
Now things are starting to get a little out of hand. I have not seen anything about draining all those lakes that have been sucking up water (and power to keep them full) for years. Why should my 12-foot-by-50-foot yard suffer so ducks can swim off West Sahara Avenue?
It is time to drain those water wasters and put in some nice concrete skateboard parks, bike paths and swing sets for the kids -- all with desert landscaping, of course.
