Man found dead next to car

North Las Vegas Police detectives are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man found next to a car at Comstock Drive and Hassell Avenue about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Patrol officers arrived in the area after a report of gunshots fired, and found Las Vegas resident Scott Alan Harrell, 40, dead.

Harrell's body was near a car that had crashed through a concrete wall on the east side of Comstock, officers said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He appeared to have been shot while driving, but it is not known if he died from bullet wounds or the accident.

A spokesman with the Clark County coroner's office said that a cause of death would probably be determined today.

Bound man carried from apartment

North Las Vegas Police are searching for two suspects who carried another man who was bound and gagged out of an apartment near Lake Mead Boulevard and Belmont Avenue about 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Suspect sought in roommate's death

The Las Vegas Criminal Apprehension Team is asking for the public's help in finding a man wanted in connection with the slaying of his roommate, whose body was found buried beneath a concrete slab in an apartment.

The apprehension team, a task force made up of detectives from local police forces and FBI agents, is looking for Gregory Michael Stiegler, 36.

Stiegler has been in and out of town since the body of 52-year-old Robert W. Wilson was found buried in an apartment in the 500 block of South Maryland Parkway, investigators said.

Stiegler had been living with Wilson, investigators said.

Stiegler is described as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He may or may not have a mustache. He also has the letters S.W.P. and a swastika tattooed on the four fingers of his right hand.

Anyone with information regarding Stiegler's whereabouts is asked to call Secret Witness at 385-5555. Anyone with information leading to Stiegler's arrest and conviction could be eligible for a $1,000 reward.

Gibbons backs Bush timber plan

Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., is backing a plan offered by President Bush and opposed by environmentalists to reduce wildland fire risk.

To counter wildfires next year, the nation should adopt Bush's plan to allow more logging to cut down on wildfire fuel, Gibbons said. On Wednesday Gibbons signed on as a sponsor of legislation that closely mirrors Bush proposals.

Bush's Healthy Forests Initiative, unveiled last month, gives timber companies easier access to fire-prone national forests. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., among others, has criticized the Bush plan as a proposal to accelerate logging as a handout to the timber industry.

Wildfires have burned more than 6 million acres in the West at an estimated cost of $1.5 billion. Nevada was scorched by 728 wildfires that burned more than 82,000 acres this year, Gibbons said, citing National Interagency Fire Center statistics.

The suspect may have escaped in a white sedan with an accomplice, police said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Henderson Police at 565-2000 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
