Shuffle Master countersued

WMS Gaming Inc., a Chicago gaming machine maker, sued to stop Las Vegas gaming equipment supplier Shuffle Master Inc. from using WMS trademarks to sell gaming software.

The dispute is over an upgrade or conversion kit that allows casino operators to retrofit WMS machines with Shuffle Master's game applications.

WMS, in a U.S. District Court suit filed Friday afternoon, said Shuffle Master promoted its upgrade kit by falsely claiming that the software allows casino operators to take an "under-performing (WMS machine) and turn it into a money maker."

But Shuffle Master, in a preemptive strike, sued WMS earlier Friday, claiming it had "openly and completely" discussed its plan with WMS executives over the past year to sell its gaming software for WMS slot machines.
